Abu Dhabi T10 Leagues History and Current Teams

The Abu Dhabi T10 League, formerly known as the T10 League, is a fast-paced cricket tournament in the United Arab Emirates. Launched and owned by T Ten Sports Management, the Emirates Cricket Board officially approved the league and was sanctioned by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2018 as a semi-professional event. Each match features two teams playing 10 overs per side, with games lasting about 90 minutes. The tournament follows a round-robin format, leading to Eliminators and a Final.

Since its inception, the league has grown significantly in viewership and economic value. The 2021-2022 season reached 342 million viewers through television and digital platforms, a substantial increase from the 37 million viewers in 2017. The league’s economic impact is now valued at approximately USD 621.2 million.

The 2023 season, which ran from November 28 to December 9, was the seventh edition of the Abu Dhabi T10. Held at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium, the Deccan Gladiators were the defending champions, having secured their second title in the previous season’s final.

History

The Abu Dhabi T10 League was founded in 2017 by Shaji Ul Mulk, chairman of T10 Sports Management. The inaugural season featured six teams playing at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The league quickly gained popularity for its fast-paced and high-scoring format, with the Northern Warriors winning the first championship by defeating the Pakhtoons in the final.

In 2019, the league expanded to eight teams, enhancing its profile and attracting more international players. The Maratha Arabians claimed the title that year, beating the Northern Warriors in the final. Although the 2020 season was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, the league completed its fixtures in a bio-secure environment, with the Delhi Bulls emerging as champions after defeating the Northern Warriors.

The 2021 season saw the return of the eight-team format and was marked by high entertainment value and the emergence of new talent. The Deccan Gladiators won the championship, clinching the title against the Northern Warriors. Since then, the Abu Dhabi T10 League has continued to grow, focusing on attracting top international players and enhancing the competitive standard of the tournament.
