However, Mitchell was dismissed soon after by Jaydev Unadkat for 52 while trying to hit big. Shivam Dube came in and played a careful innings initially. At the same time, Gaikwad continued attacking and moving into the 80s by the 15th. In the 16th over, Gaikwad hit two more fours off Cummins, inching closer to a century with four overs remaining.
By then, Dube had faced just six balls and scored four runs. When Natarajan bowled the 17th over, Dube unleashed his power, hitting two sixes as Natarajan struggled with his yorkers. Cummins was also struck for a straight six in the next over, signaling CSK’s potential to reach 230. Unadkat’s penultimate over was strong, conceding just eight runs.
In the final over, Gaikwad was dismissed for 98, caught at mid-wicket, missing a century by just two runs. MS Dhoni came into a rapturous reception and quickly thrilled the crowd, driving his first ball through square-leg for four. Dube then smashed a vast six through mid-wicket and ended the innings with a single, pushing CSK’s total to 214.
Given the recent trends in the TATA Indian Premier League, SRH was confident of chasing down 214. Their openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, began aggressively targeting boundaries. But in the second over, CSK struck twice: Head attempted an off-side shot but was caught deep, and Anmolpreet Singh, brought in as an Impact Player, edged his first ball to cover. Tushar Deshpande was critical in providing these breakthroughs for CSK.
A few overs later, Tushar Deshpande struck again, taking a crucial wicket when Abhishek Sharma hit the fielder at deep point. Aiden Markram and Nitish Reddy attempted to steady the innings. Markram found a few boundaries, but the required run rate kept climbing. When Reddy looked to pull a half-tracker from Ravindra Jadeja in the ninth over, he got a top edge. He was caught by Dhoni, breaking the mini-partnership.
SRH struggled to build momentum as CSK consistently took wickets at crucial moments. The turning point came in the 11th over when Matheesha Pathirana bowled a trademark yorker, dismissing Markram for 32. From there, SRH’s chase unraveled. CSK’s bowlers kept the pressure on, even against powerful hitters like Heinrich Klaasen and Abdul Samad, pushing the required rate beyond reach. SRH’s innings ended at 134, handing CSK a commanding victory.
CSK’s bowling was a team effort, with Deshpande leading the way with four wickets—three of which disrupted SRH’s early momentum. Pathirana’s two middle-over wickets were vital, and Mustafizur Rahman sealed the win with two late wickets. In a notable statistic, Daryl Mitchell took five catches, the most by an outfielder in a TATA IPL match, matching Mohammad Nabi’s record from the 2021 season.
