MS Dhoni has put an end to the speculation about his future in the Indian Premier League (IPL), confirming his participation in the upcoming season. This announcement has brought relief to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and their fans, who were eager to see their iconic captain lead the team once more. Dhoni, a central figure in CSK’s success, has led the franchise to multiple IPL titles, solidifying his legacy as one of the league’s most respected and beloved players.
Following Dhoni’s confirmation, CSK has wasted no time in publicly affirming their captain’s return for another season. His decision provides a significant boost to the team’s preparations, with the franchise eager to capitalize on his leadership and experience. Dhoni’s presence not only bolsters CSK’s lineup but also brings renewed enthusiasm to the fan base, who eagerly anticipate another thrilling season under his guidance.
“When he is ready, what else (do) we want. We are happy,” Franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan confirmed to Cricbuzz on Saturday that MS Dhoni will be returning for the upcoming IPL season, bringing renewed excitement to the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) camp. Viswanathan’s statement follows Dhoni’s own remarks expressing his intention to enjoy the remaining years of his cricketing career, hinting that his time in the sport, though cherished, is gradually drawing to a close.

Dhoni’s comments and Viswanathan’s confirmation have reassured CSK fans, who are eager to see their captain lead the team once again. The announcement highlights Dhoni’s commitment to the franchise and his desire to savor every moment on the field, adding a sentimental layer to the upcoming season. His return promises not only strategic strength but also an inspiring presence that has defined CSK’s ethos for years.
“I just want to enjoy whatever last few years of cricket I am able to play,” Dhoni was quoted as saying to TOI. “When you play cricket like a professional sport, it becomes difficult to enjoy it just like a game. That’s what I want to do. It’s not easy.”
“The emotions keep coming, the commitments are there. I want to enjoy the game for the next few years. I have to keep myself fit for nine months, so that I can play two and a half months of IPL. You need to plan it out, but at the same time chill a bit.”
While MS Dhoni’s announcement to play in the upcoming IPL season was anticipated, CSK officials had been awaiting his final confirmation. They had previously stated they expected clarity on his plans by October 28. With Dhoni’s intentions now settled, the franchise is ready to proceed with crucial retention decisions ahead of the season. Franchise CEO Kasi Viswanathan shared that Dhoni will be in touch with CSK owner N. Srinivasan in the coming days to finalize the list of retained players, ensuring the team is well-prepared for the next IPL season.

Dhoni’s inclusion will be classified in the uncapped player category, which strategically keeps his auction impact minimal at INR 4 crore. This arrangement not only strengthens CSK’s retention budget but also maximizes their ability to craft a competitive roster around their iconic captain. Dhoni’s return not only brings a wealth of experience but also reassures fans and the team alike of CSK’s commitment to achieving another successful season under his leadership.
Ravindra Jadeja is expected to top the retention list for Chennai Super Kings (CSK), closely followed by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Additionally, Matheesha Pathirana, who has emerged as a valuable asset for the franchise, is likely to secure the No. 3 retention spot, with his manager having finalized the agreement in Chennai last week. As CSK deliberates over its roster, they will also consider retaining two players from a group that includes Shivam Dube, Devon Conway, and uncapped talent Sameer Rizvi.
The final retention decisions will be solidified in an upcoming conversation between CSK owner N. Srinivasan and MS Dhoni, who is expected to return to Ranchi from Goa in the next few days. This pivotal discussion will determine the team’s strategic direction and ensure that the franchise is well-prepared for the upcoming season. The anticipated choices reflect CSK’s commitment to maintaining a competitive squad while recognizing the contributions of both seasoned and emerging players.
