India Faces Major Injury Concern: Star Batter Could Miss Bangladesh Tests and Duleep Trophy – Report

Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav might miss the upcoming Duleep Trophy due to injury concerns, according to a report by the Times of India. The report states that Yadav has checked into the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after injuring his right thumb during a match against TNCA XI in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament. With the Duleep Trophy just a week away, there’s a possibility he could miss the tournament. This injury also raises concerns for the Indian cricket team, which is set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series in September.

Earlier, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his desire to “earn a spot” in the Indian Test team, saying that red-ball cricket is a priority for him.

India has 10 Test matches lined up in the coming months. Although Suryakumar Yadav is a regular in India’s white-ball team, he has played just one Test, scoring eight runs in his debut against Australia in February 2023. Later that year, he was named as a reserve player for the ICC World Test Championship Final squad. With stiff competition from players like Shreyas Iyer, Sarfaraz Khan, KL Rahul, and Rajat Patidar, Suryakumar knows he faces a tough challenge to secure a spot in the Test side.

“There are a lot of people who have worked really hard to earn their place and even I want to earn that spot again,” Suryakumar said as quoted by ICC.

“I made my debut for India in Tests. After that, I got injured as well. There were a lot of people who got an opportunity and have done well too. They deserve that opportunity right now,” he added.

In 82 first-class matches, he has scored 5,628 runs with a healthy average of 43.62 with 14 hundreds to his name.

“Made Life A Lot Easier”: Young Batter Ayush Badoni Hails IPL For Shaping His Career

South Delhi Superstarz skipper Ayush Badoni, who hit a record 19 sixes, believes his ability to time the ball is the reason behind a record-smashing 55-ball 165 runs effort in the Delhi Premier League match against North Delhi Strikers.

South Delhi Superstarz captain Ayush Badoni, who set a new record with 19 sixes, credits his exceptional timing for his stunning 165 runs off just 55 balls in the Delhi Premier League match against North Delhi Strikers. The 24-year-old right-hander’s brilliant knock powered his team to a decisive 112-run victory on Saturday. Ayush also forged a massive 286-run partnership with opener Priyansh Arya for the second wicket. By hitting 19 sixes, he broke the previous record of 18 sixes in a single innings, held by West Indian legend Chris Gayle and Estonia’s Sahil Chauhan in T20 cricket.

“I was just looking to time the ball well, I never thought I would end up hitting 19 sixes in an innings. I just focus on timing the ball and not trying to hit the ball hard,” Badoni told PTI Videos.

Badoni, who plays for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, has shown promise with the bat in his brief cricketing career. Following his impressive performance in the ongoing Delhi Premier League, he is likely to catch the attention of several IPL franchises.

“I am not thinking about the (IPL) mega auction yet; my focus is on winning the Delhi Premier League right now as a skipper,” he said.

“Playing in the IPL has made life a lot easier for me as a batter here (DPL). We face world-class bowlers there, and then coming here and playing becomes relatively easy.” LSG assistant coach Jonty Rhodes compared Badoni to former Proteas hard-hitting batter Herschelle Gibbs.

“Jonty and I have a great relationship. I want to thank him for his kind words and just want to say that ‘see you soon, Jonty’.” Badoni has been leading the South Delhi Superstarz by example. Together with Priyansh Arya, they have scored a combined 1,091 runs in the inaugural Delhi Premier League. The skipper acknowledged that strong partnerships at the top make things easier for the batters coming in later.

“I know that Priyansh and I have done well and our batting does help take the pressure off the team. But they come and tell me after the game that they too are eager to contribute with the bat. There are a few youngsters who have impressed and now it is our turn to groom them well,”
