Hyderabad and Mumbai Indians batter Tilak Verma has been appointed as the captain of the India A squad for the upcoming Emerging Teams Asia Cup, scheduled to take place in Oman from October 18 to 27. This tournament will be played in a T20 format, shifting from previous editions. Verma will lead a 15-member team, with aggressive opening batter Abhishek Sharma serving as his deputy. This leadership role highlights Verma’s growing reputation in Indian cricket as a promising young talent.
Abhishek Sharma is notable for his role as vice-captain and as one of the two players returning from the tournament’s previous edition, which was held in the ODI format in 2023. The other returning player is left-arm spinner Nishant Sindhu, ensuring a mix of experience and fresh talent in the squad. The selection showcases a balanced blend of established players and rising stars, aiming to significantly impact the tournament.
The India A squad’s batting lineup is inspiring, featuring explosive talents like Prabhsimran Singh, Ayush Badoni, and Nehal Wadhera, who have recently made impressive strides in T20 cricket. This combination of experienced players and dynamic newcomers positions the team well for a strong performance in Oman, as they aim to secure victory in the Emerging Teams Asia Cup and showcase the depth of talent in Indian cricket.

This diverse mix of bowling talent is expected to provide effective options throughout the tournament.
India is placed in Group B alongside Oman, Pakistan A, and UAE. The competition will kick off for Varma’s squad with a highly anticipated match against arch-rivals Pakistan A on October 19, setting the stage for an exciting campaign. The team will be looking to leverage its blend of experience and youthful energy to secure victory in this prestigious tournament.

England’s regular Test captain, Ben Stokes, is set to return to cricket just nine weeks after suffering a hamstring injury during The Hundred. Starting Tuesday, he has been declared fit to lead the team in the second Multan Test against Pakistan. Stokes spent the first Test in Multan working on his fitness, using the time between sessions to focus on his batting and bowling. He practiced in the nets and participated in a slip-catching drill on Monday to prepare for his return.
The only other change to the England lineup, which won the first Test against Pakistan by an innings and 47 runs last week, is the inclusion of Matt Potts. This match will feature an all-Durham seam attack, with Stokes and Brydon Carse, who took four wickets for 140 runs across two innings against Pakistan. Potts had previously played in the first two Tests against Sri Lanka at Manchester and Lord’s in August, adding experience to the squad as they aim for another victory.
Ben Stokes and Matt Potts have been brought into the England squad, replacing Chris Woakes and Gus Atkinson, who have been rested for the match. Despite Pakistan’s intention to use the same pitch for the second Test, England will maintain the same lineup as the first, featuring three seamers and two spinners. Finger spinners Jack Leach and Shoaib Bashir will be included in the playing XI, as leg-spinner Rehan Ahmed is not part of the team for this match.
Under Stokes’ leadership, England made history in 2022 by becoming the first team to achieve a home whitewash against Pakistan, winning the series 3-0. Last week’s victory over Pakistan, led by stand-in captain Ollie Pope, marked England’s fourth consecutive win.
The England XI for the second Test is Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Harry Brook, Ben Stokes (captain), Jamie Smith (wicketkeeper), Brydon Carse, Matthew Potts, Jack Leach, and Shoaib Bashir.
