Shannon Gabriel has officially announced his retirement from international cricket, bringing an end to a notable career. As a key pacer for the West Indies, Gabriel played a vital role in the team’s success, especially in Test matches, where his wicket-taking skills were crucial. His departure marks the end of an era for the West Indies cricket team.
In his retirement statement, Gabriel expressed his deep gratitude for the support from fans throughout his career. Reflecting on his time representing his country, he acknowledged the significance of the journey and shared his plans for the future as he steps away from the international stage.
Shannon Gabriel took to Instagram to announce his retirement from international cricket. In his post, he thanked the Cricket Board members and his teammates for their unwavering support, which he and his family appreciated during his career.
Gabriel also shared his future plans, revealing that he will continue to play domestic cricket for Trinidad & Tobago. Additionally, he will participate in franchise cricket with teams around the world, staying active in the sport he loves.
“During the past 12 years, I have dedicated myself to playing international cricket for the West Indies. Playing this beloved game at the highest level has brought me immense joy, but as the saying goes, all good things must come to an end. Today, I am announcing my retirement from international cricket. Firstly, I would like to express my gratitude to God for the numerous blessings and the opportunities my family and I have received during my time playing for the West Indies.”
“Secondly, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to Cricket West Indies administrators, coaches, and staff members. Words cannot adequately convey the appreciation I have for your hard work and support over the years. Last but not least, I am grateful to my teammates and all those who have stood by me and supported me along the way. You have made my journey to the top truly special. Moving forward, my plan is to continue representing my country, club, and franchise teams around the world with the same love and passion I have shown throughout my career,” Shannon Gabriel’s statement said.
Gabriel played 59 Test matches, 25 One Day Internationals (ODIs), and two Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is) for the West Indies, taking a total of 202 wickets. His Test career was particularly impressive, with 166 wickets, including six five-wicket hauls, over his 12 years in international cricket. Gabriel’s most recent appearance for the West Indies was in July 2023. Since then, he has continued to play for Trinidad and Tobago in domestic cricket.
