In a previous Delhi Capitals (DC) delivered a dominant performance to defeat Gujarat Titans (GT) by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The DC bowlers were outstanding in this DC vs. GT clash, dismissing GT for just 89 runs. The DC batters then made short work of the target, securing a convincing win and marking their third victory in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.
Ahmedabad is usually known for high-scoring matches, as demonstrated by the recent thrilling game between Punjab Kings and the hosts. However, the DC vs GT encounter was an exception to this trend. DC won the toss and chose to put GT in to bat, exploiting conditions that favored bowlers over batters. Throughout the innings, DC’s bowlers maintained their discipline, taking wickets at regular intervals and preventing GT from building substantial partnerships.
Recent TATA IPL games have featured record-breaking scores, but this match highlighted the prowess of the bowlers. The pivotal moment came early when Ishant Sharma dismissed GT captain Shubman Gill in the second over, with Gill’s shot straight to cover. This early breakthrough set the tone for the rest of the innings, as DC’s bowlers continued to dominate and restrict GT’s scoring opportunities.
Wriddhiman Saha had a challenging return to the side in the DC vs GT match. He attempted a risky shot but inside-edged Mukesh Kumar’s delivery onto the stumps in the fourth over. The Delhi Capitals bowlers benefited not only from their own efforts but also from a stellar fielding performance and Rishabh Pant’s skills behind the stumps.
Sai Sudharsan’s attempt to play a tight single was cut short when Sumit Kumar fielded the ball at mid-wicket and dived to hit the non-striker’s end, catching Sudharsan short. David Miller then inside-edged an Ishant Sharma delivery onto his pads, which lobbed up for Pant to take a well-judged diving catch. As a result, GT was reduced to 30 for four in six overs.
After the powerplay, the highlight of the DC vs GT match was Rishabh Pant’s two quick stumpings. Abhinav Manohar and Rahul Tewatia attempted to recover when Pant introduced off-spin from Tristan Stubbs. Abhinav, trying to play a ball outside the off-stump, was caught out by Pant’s lightning-fast stumping, leaving the batter just millimeters short.
The DC vs GT match saw GT forced to use their Impact Player, Shahrukh Khan, as a replacement for Sudharsan. Shahrukh faced a delivery from Tristan Stubbs that was fired down the leg side. Attempting to play it through the leg side, he was outside the crease when the ball struck Pant’s gloves and hit the stumps. While there was a bit of fortune for DC, Pant’s quick reflexes across to the leg side proved crucial. Their situation looked grim, with GT at 48 for six in the ninth.
Rashid Khan emerged as the sole significant resistance for GT, scoring 31 off 24 balls with two fours and a six. His six over long-off off Kuldeep Yadav was a highlight as Gujarat Titans struggled at the other end. Mukesh Kumar then dismissed Rashid, who attempted an uppercut, effectively ending GT’s fight. They were bowled out for 89 in the 18th over. Despite Kuldeep remaining wicketless, he only conceded 16 runs in his four overs. Only Tewatia (10), Sudharsan (12), and Rashid reached double figures for GT.
In the DC vs GT chase, DC was never intimidated by the tiny target 90. Jale Fraser-McGurk made an aggressive start, smashing the second ball of the innings for a six straight down the ground. He followed this with a four over the bowler and then hit Spencer Johnson for a six over extra cover. However, in the same over, Johnson dismissed Fraser-McGurk, caught at mid-wicket for 20.
The DC vs. GT match saw a competitive powerplay as Sandeep Warrier delivered a well-executed short ball that caught Prithvi Shaw at short third-man. Abhishek Porel and Shai Hope then launched an aggressive attack on the bowlers, particularly during the fifth over. Warrier was hit for three sixes and a four before eventually dismissing Porel.
Despite the target not being overly challenging, DC remained composed and wasn’t fazed by the wickets they lost. Rashid Khan came on for the final over of the powerplay, and Hope attempted a reverse sweep, only to be caught out at point. DC effectively won the powerplay with the score at 67 for four.
Throughout the DC vs GT clash, DC consistently stayed ahead. Rishabh Pant then took charge and finished the game with several expansive shots, leading DC to a remarkable victory with 67 balls to spare. As captain, it was a standout team performance that Pant would be proud of.
