In LSG vs KKR Match 54 of the TATA Indian Premier League 2024 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) secured their third consecutive win, moving to the top of the table with a dominant 98-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Sunil Narine played a swashbuckling knock of 81 off 39 balls and, combined with exceptional bowling and fielding, led KKR to 235/6. Narine and Phil Salt (32 off 14) set a blistering foundation with a 61-run stand in just 4.1 overs. Narine’s explosive innings were complemented by crucial cameos from Ramandeep Singh (25* off 6) and Shreyas Iyer (23 off 15).
The in-form Varun Chakaravarthy (3/30) and Harshit Rana (3/24) spearheaded KKR’s bowling attack, dismissing LSG for 137 from a strong position of 70/1. In the LSG vs KKR clash, Kolkata Knight Riders struck early in the defense of their total with a stunning catch by Ramandeep Singh. Starc induced a leading edge from Impact Player Arshin Kulkarni, and Ramandeep, running backward, executed an exceptional catch. Despite Rahul and Kulkarni hitting four fours off the first nine balls, this brilliant fielding effort set the tone for KKR’s commanding performance.
In the LSG vs KKR clash, Marcus Stoinis made an impactful arrival, counter-attacking with a six off Vaibhav Arora and then blasting three powerful fours off Starc. He took Lucknow Super Giants past fifty with another six off Harshit Rana, helping LSG reach 55/1 by the end of the Powerplay. Stoinis and Rahul built a solid fifty-run stand, with Stoinis being the primary aggressor. However, KKR needed a breakthrough from Harshit Rana as he had KL Rahul (25 off 21) caught at a deep point in the eighth over. This dismissal sparked a collapse.
In the LSG vs KKR match, Varun Chakaravarthy quickly followed up with two more wickets, trapping Deepak Hooda LBW after a failed review. Andre Russell then made crucial contributions, removing Stoinis, who top-edged a heave to backward point for 36 (21), and Nicholas Pooran, caught behind. Narine joined the wicket-taking efforts with the dismissal of Ayush Badoni, caught at long off.
Ashton Turner hit a couple of sixes off Varun Chakaravarthy but was dismissed unusually, as the ball he jammed onto his boot looped up for a caught and bowled. Harshit Rana then took Krunal Pandya’s wicket, caught behind, and Chakaravarthy claimed his third by dismissing concussion substitute Yudhvir Singh Charak off a top-edge. Rana finished with his third wicket, trapping Ravi Bishnoi LBW, as KKR bowled LSG out for 137 and won by 98 runs.
Earlier, Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul won the toss and elected to field.
In the LSG vs KKR clash, Phil Salt and Sunil Narine set the pace for KKR with a dynamic start, reaching fifty in just four overs. After accumulating 18 runs off the first two overs, Salt and Narine intensified their attack, hitting four fours off Naveen-ul-Haq in the next over. Narine continued to dominate, targeting Mohsin Khan with three fours and a six to score 20 off the over, establishing a 50-run stand. However, Naveen-ul-Haq retaliated in the following over by dismissing Salt (32 off 14), who was caught behind after Salt had hit a four off the first ball.
In the LSG vs KKR game, Narine and Angkrish Raghuvanshi stabilized the innings and accelerated from the 9th. They both hit a six-elite-off pull shot from Yash Thakur, with Narine reaching his fifty off 27 balls and KKR crossing 100 runs. Narine attacked Ravi Bishnoi with fours before taking on Stoinis, smashing three sixes in the over.
In the LSG vs. KKR match, Narine got a stroke of luck in the next over when he lofted a ball too long off. Devdutt Padikkal managed to catch it but stepped onto the ropes as he couldn’t keep his balance. Narine then slashed at another delivery and got an outside edge to short third man, where Mohsin Khan dived to his right but couldn’t hold on. However, Narine’s luck ran out four balls later when Padikkal secured an easy catch a long time after Narine mistimed his lofted shot off Bishnoi, ending his innings at 81 off 39.
Following a couple of mixed overs, LSG made a significant breakthrough by dismissing Russell. Substitute fielder K Gowtham pulled off a stunning catch running backward after Russell miscued a high shot off Naveen. In the LSG vs KKR game, Yudhvir Singh Charak came in as a concussion substitute for Mohsin Khan, who had injured himself attempting a catch at short third man. Charak struck on his first ball, having Raghuvanshi caught behind.
LSG clawed back into the contest, but Rinku Singh and Shreyas Iyer pushed KKR past 200 before Rinku was out for 16 off 11 balls. Ramandeep Singh then provided a finishing touch with a 25*-run cameo off six balls, guiding KKR to 235/6. This was the first time a team had posted 200 or more at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow.
