On Sunday evening, Multan Sultans concluded their home leg on a high note by defeating Quetta Gladiators (MS vs QG) by 13 runs at Multan Cricket Stadium. After setting a target of 180-4 in the first innings, the Mohammad Rizwan-led side managed to restrict Quetta Gladiators to 167-9, thanks to impressive three-wicket hauls from Mohammad Ali and David Willey.
The next fixture (MS vs QG) will take place at Gaddafi Stadium Lahore at 7 p.m., featuring Lahore Qalandars and Peshawar 7 pm Quetta Gladiators won the toss and chose to field first, setting the stage for an exciting encounter.
Usman Khan, making his debut in HBL PSL 9, started vital for the Gladiators, hitting three boundaries in the first over. However, Abrar Ahmed delivered the first breakthrough as Usman (14 runs off 7 balls, including 3 fours) was stumped in the third over, shifting the momentum back in favor of the Sultans.
Reeza Hendricks joined Mohammad Rizwan in the middle during the match between Multan Sultans and Quetta Gladiators (MS vs QG), forming a crucial 79-run partnership for the second wicket, bringing much-needed momentum to Multan’s innings. Akeal Hosein eventually broke the partnership in the 14th over, dismissing Rizwan, who holed out to Saud Shakeel at deep midwicket. The Multan skipper returned after scoring his 18th HBL PSL half-century, which included two boundaries and four maximums.
Following Rizwan’s departure, Tayyab Tahir—debuting in HBL PSL 9—teamed up with Hendricks to create a quickfire 77-run stand, further bolstering Multan’s total. Their partnership was instrumental in setting up a competitive score during the MS vs QG clash.
In the last five overs of the innings, Multan surged ahead, amassing 68 runs, with the 18th and 19th overs yielding 17 runs each. This late surge was vital in pushing Multan to a satisfactory total, setting the stage for an exciting finish in the match (MS vs QG).
By the time Reeza Hendricks was dismissed in the final over, the damage had already been done. Multan Sultans finished their innings at 180-4 during the MS vs QG match. Hendricks played a crucial role, scoring 72 runs off 47 balls, which included seven boundaries and four maximums. His impressive performance allowed him to overtake Lahore’s Sahibzada Farhan and become the tournament’s leading run-scorer.
Tayyab Tahir also contributed significantly, finishing with an unbeaten 35 runs from 22 deliveries, including four boundaries and a six. On the bowling side, Mohammad Amir claimed two wickets, while both Abrar and Akeal picked up one each, helping to set the stage for a competitive chase in the MS vs QG encounter.
Quetta Gladiators struggled early in pursuit of 181 runs, losing both their opening batters within the powerplay. Jason Roy fell to an exceptional delivery from Mohammad Ali in the third over, while Saud Shakeel was caught mid-on by Usama Mir off David Willey, putting the Gladiators on the back foot in the crucial MS vs QG matchup.
Khawaja Nafay and captain Rilee Rossouw formed a solid partnership, adding 62 runs for the third wicket during the MS vs QG match until debutant Aftab Ibrahim dismissed Rossouw on the last ball of the 12th over. Rossouw departed after scoring 30 runs off 18 balls, which included one four and two sixes.
Sajjad Ali came in as a concussion substitute for Sarfaraz Ahmed but managed to score only two runs off two balls before being stumped by Rizwan off Usama Mir’s bowling. This dismissal further deepened Quetta Gladiators’ troubles in the MS vs QG clash.
Nafay’s innings ended as he was caught behind point by Usama, handing Ali his second wicket of the day. Nafay finished with 36 runs from 31 balls, including two boundaries and two sixes, leaving Quetta in a challenging position during the match (MS vs QG).
Sherfane Rutherford added 21 runs off 14 balls, hitting two maximums, before being caught and bowled by Willey during the MS vs QG match. In the same way, Mohammad Wasim Jnr also fell cheaply, managing just one run.
Mohammad Amir contributed with 12 runs from eight deliveries, which included two boundaries before Ali knocked his stumps over in the penultimate over. Aftab, bowling the final over, removed Abrar on the last ball, securing the game for Multan Sultans by 13 runs in the MS vs QG clash.
